The Program encourages social activities amongst the housestaff and organizes activities such as:
Interns and Faculty Cookout – This gathering is held yearly at the Program directors home, our newly hired interns and their families attend, and this gives them the chance to mingle with their new coworkers. The Chief of Medicine, Program Director, Associate Program Directors and support staff attends as well.
Apple Picking – This event is held yearly; in New England we think everyone should taste some homemade apple pie. Fall season is when we gather our entire housestaff, family, and faculty and head to an Apple Orchard to pick fresh apples right off the trees! We then head to the Program Directors house to have lunch and bake fresh apple desserts.
Scenic Bike Rides – There is nothing like the crisp fresh mountain air! Our housestaff gathers for a bike ride to enjoy the trails and the fall foliage at it’s finest!
Snow Tubing – Our housestaff and faculty enjoy winter in New England by snow tubing. Everyone gathers for hot cocoa and enjoys the fresh fallen snow. This is a fun and exciting event that takes place every winter. Make sure you bring plenty of warm hats and gloves for this event!
International Holiday Fest – Culture, Diversity, and Talent all come out during this pot-luck style event. The event is typically held in December and we ask everyone to bring a dish from each of their ethnic backgrounds to share with our housestaff, faculty and families. We have Santa Clause (better known as Dr. Steigman!) hand out gifts for all of the children, our talented housestaff perform a variety show that includes live music, comical theatrical skits, as well as cultural dances and performances. It is an event not to be missed!
Farewell Dinner – The Farewell Dinner is held at a local Country Club, faculty and housestaff gather to congratulate the PGY1 and PGY3 on completing their internships and residencies. The interns and residents are given performance-based, peer selected awards. The incoming PGY3 class presents gifts to the departing chief medical residents and PGY3 class.
