The Department of Radiology at Worcester Medical Center (St. Vincent Hospital) provides state of the art diagnostic and interventional services in a tertiary care community hospital setting. There is an independent radiology residency training program (9 Residents total) which has been fully accredited since its inception in 1972. A new hospital complex opened in April 2000. The full spectrum of diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic radiology and nuclear medicine is available including a new PET/CT fusion unit. The cornerstone of the high-tech department is the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). There is all digital image acquisition, storage, and distribution. All interpretation is performed on diagnostic workstations with voice recognition dictation. There is instant access of images and reports to clinicians via a web server. Images and reports may be viewed throughout the medical center and off-site via the Internet. The residency program stresses active participation and hands-on training. Over the 4-year program a resident can expect to participate in 200-300 angiographic procedures and 100-200 interventional procedures. There are 10 weekly intradepartmental conferences and 4 interdepartmental conferences with resident participation. In addition to Worcester Medical Center rotations additional experience is provided:
